Cycling

Our mountains are famous for excellent cycling routes, stupendous scenery and challenging terrain. Here in La Thuile, we can offer you a relaxing rest-point on your route around the Alps, or a pleasant place to stay for your local cycling holiday.

We are happy to ensure you have a breakfast sufficient to your energetic needs and to organise anything else you need to help you to replenish you reserves and your backpacks.

A few local examples : the Col de l’Iseran and the Cormet de Roseland, both on the Route des Grandes Alpes, and the Col de Petit Saint Bernard via Sainte Foy, which takes you through the beautiful villages of La Masure, Le Miroir, Le Chatelard and Hauteville, before joining the road up to La Rosière.  Italy is in such easy reach, taking you through the valley of Aosta to the Col de Grand Saint Bernard and Switzerland.

A map of cycle routes in the Haute Tarentaise is available to download from the Sainte Foy website.

In 2007, the Tour de France passed through the village on its way to the Col de l’Iseran, the highest mountain pass in Europe at 2770m altitude.

From there, you pass down into the beautiful Maurienne valley and arrive at the world heritage village of Bonneval.

There are also great mountain bike opportunities, in Sainte Foy, in Val d’Isère and Tignes.

The ski resorts open lifts in summer with special bike carriers, to get you up the mountain, and specialist shops in all the resorts can offer you the equipment you need for an adrenaline-packed descent!  Guides and lessons are also available.
